were first introduced, getting true full HD content was difficult. The same problem continues with 4k or UHD. If your 4kis hungry for content that will truly make it come alive, Karan
& Hitesh raj Bhagat show you how to get your 4K TV the quality ofthat it needs and deserves.
4K Video Streaming
was amongst the first video streaming platforms to support 4k. While most 4kare already tagged as 4k or UHD, they might not run in 4k resolution due to slower internet speeds. You will have to manually select 4k in the settings tab when you launch the video. The other streaming option for 4k content is. Keep in mind that you will have to opt for theplan (Rs 800 per month) to enable 4k streaming. Once you switch the plan, you will have to set streaming quality to ‘High’ in settings to view 4k content. Then, just search for 4k or UHD to see available titles.
Gaming is one of the areas where you can expect the most detailed graphics and effects depending on the genre you are playing. Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 were the easiest ways to get quality full HD games. To satisfy the demand for 4k content, Microsoft’s Xbox One S offers 4k media playback. It can also upscale full HD games to 4k resolution.recently launched the PlayStation 4 Pro with 4k gaming support (this is on select titles only). For 2017,has announced the Xbox One X that offers native 4k gaming (instead of upscaling) for a more immersive experience. It will be available after November 2017.
This is one segment where we don’t have too many options in. Currently the only Android box with 4k video playback support is Amkette’s EvoTV 2 4k (Rs 6,499). Powered by a quad core processor with 1GB RAM and 8GB storage, the media player runs a custom skin based on Android 6.0. A number of streaming service are preloaded on the device including YouTube, Netflix,Prime Video and so on. You can install third party media players from the Googleto play content stored on flash drives or hard drives. The box has 4 USB ports, built-in WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, Ethernet and support for 7.1 channel audio.
With the competition heating up, manufacturers are offering many morein the Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000 segment. One of these features is 4k video recording. Evenphones like the Redmi Note 4 (priced at `9,999 onwards) offer 4k video recording in good quality. While this solves the problem of content creation, most phones don’t offer direct playback of 4k content to the TV. One way to view your smartphone’s 4k video is to copy it to a USB drive and then play that on the TV or through a media player. Another option is to upload the video on YouTube in its native resolution and then play using the YouTube app or media player box.
Even though phones can record 4k videos, they cannot beat the video quality you get from a dedicated camera. Besides a clutch of professional DSLRs that offer 4k video recording, you can always choose action cameras and mirrorless cameras. In India, action cameras supporting 4k recording are the Garmin Virb Ultra 30 (Rs 33,990) and the GoPro Hero 4 or Hero 5 (Rs 30,990 onwards). As for mirrorless cameras,
has a wellestablished series, starting with the GH4 (Rs 79,990, body only) and GH5 (Rs 1,40,400, body only). Sony also has the RX100 mark IV (Rs 62,990) and RX100 mark V (`77,000). All of these cameras offer great quality 4k video recording apart from excellent stills.
4k Blu-Ray Players
BluRay players might not be as common now, but they do offer a great way to enjoy 4k content via Blu-Ray Discs. Depending on the model you choose, the Blu-Ray player might have native 4k playback capability or 4k upscaling. Some Blu-Ray players like Samsung’s K8500 (Rs 27,990) also offer built-in WiFi and access to various streaming services. It’s nice to know that prices of Blu-Ray discs have come down considerably over the years – prices start as low as Rs 299 (4k discs are naturally more expensive).
4k Set Top Box A majority of TV channels have recently managed to upgrade their entireto HD resolution. However, that is not stopping DTH operator TataSky and
from launching 4k set-top boxes in India. On TataSky, there are just a handful of channels available in 4k. What’s more, the 4k set-top box does not have DVR capabilities.
